Artist Spotlight: James Pack

Parental Advisory: Explicit Content

Who are you and what do you do?

I am James Pack and I am a variety show producer and amateur escape artist.

Why does it matter?

Very few people are doing the variety show format but there seems to be a demand for it and very few people are attempting escape performance art.

When did you realize performing was what you wanted to do?

I’ve been performing since I was very young.  I remember performing in shows in kindergarten and elementary school and I always enjoyed it.  I continued being a part of performance throughout the rest of my educational career and now I hope to make a living with it.

Do you remember what it was like in the beginning?

I was very young, 4 or 5, and felt very nervous mostly because I didn’t fully understand what was happening.  All I knew was people were staring at me but I was supposed to do things.  Fortunately, my other classmates and peers were also on the stage so I never felt alone and never froze.

What is your dream performance?

I’m attempting to put together my dream performance called the Equality Spectrum which combines elements of variety entertainment, Commedia dell’Arte, and educational elements.

Which living person do you most admire?

To be honest, most of the people I admire passed away many years ago, but I really admire Craig Ferguson.  I feel we have similar interests and goals.  I think if we were in a room together the discussion would go on and on and cover so many various topics.

Which living person do you most despise?

I do my best to view things from other people’s perspectives so I don’t get angry or hate them, but Lynda in accounting…she tests my patience… (Lynda isn’t a real person)

What is the quality do you most like in a man?

What is the quality do you most like in a woman?

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Starting my company, VaudVil, and actually making money.

What is your favorite word?

Prestidigitation.  It means sleight of hand.

What is your least favorite word?

Anyways…it’s pronounced anyway…

What turns you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?

Images, films, music, intellectual discussions; all kinds of things can invoke my passions within.  If I put myself in the proper mindset, anything can turn me on in some degree.

What turns you off?

Ignorance and the unwillingness to learn.  Seeing these traits in others just shuts off that part of me that wants to create and learn while at the same time it can push me even harder to create but I have to calm down first.

What is your favorite curse word?

Fucktrumpet has become a new favorite of mine.  It just rolls off the tongue.

What sound or noise do you love?

I enjoy the sound of rain but only if it’s the only thing I can hear.

What sound or noise do you hate?

A crowded noisy room.  The sound of people chatter just rubs me the wrong way.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I always wanted to be a police detective.  I felt I was very good at solving puzzles and seeing the things that people weren’t saying.

What profession would you not like to do?

Donald Trump’s hair and makeup stylist.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

I would like Him or Her to say, “Go back and do it all again.”

  1. I loved all your answers, I hope all your dreams come true, and so far it looks like you are working to make them happen.

  2. You look a little like dad in the picture with the rope. Miss you kid. I hope you are able to make all your dreams come true. Love you, little brother. Even if you are bigger than me now.
