Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Eric Schumacher. I am an actor and filmmaker. I’ve been blessed to work on some projects that have been publicized nationally and to have produced/directed, several multiple award-winning projects. I am also the creative director for Seelie Studios, LLC, an innovative, multimedia production company.
Why does it matter?
It matters for a lot of reasons. Our art makes people think and feel and helps them to process emotions and better understand their world while vicariously experiencing the lives of others. Its also very important to the economy.
When did you realize performing was what you wanted to do?
I was born into an entertainment industry family. I knew I was meant to be an actor by age 6, when my training officially began. I learned filmmaking years later and realized I had something to contribute as a filmmaker also.
Do you remember what it was like in the beginning?
I trained with my parents and went on auditions from an early age, soaking up every bit of knowledge I could.
What is your dream performance?
I’ve had the opportunity to play some dream characters so far. I’d really love to play a more complex superhero character. Dr. Strange or Batman for example. I’m a huge fan of highly emotional romances. A good solid romance movie with a really unique plot is right up my alley also.
Which living person do you most admire?
My Kung Fu teacher. A great man who’s given selflessly and tirelessly for decades.
Which living person do you most despise?
Better to say who do I feel the sorriest for, and that would be anyone who has so little ability to give love to others that they cause harm to many.
What is the quality you most like in a person (man or woman)?
The will to do good and do it well
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I suppose you could say not giving up. An arts career is very difficult. I’ve had some great successes and those have come while working staggeringly hard and facing a lot of self-doubt and a lot of fear.
What is your favorite word?
What is your least favorite word?
What turns you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
A good story well told with social relevance and a bit of magic.
What turns you off?
A cookie cutter story, told poorly without finesse.
What is your favorite curse word?
What sound or noise do you love?
Heartfelt applause, also a light rain on cobblestone.
What sound or noise do you hate?
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I have no interest in any professions other than acting and filmmaking.
What profession would you not like to do?
Anything that isn’t acting and filmmaking
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Well done my son. Now I have some more work for you.
